Tennant wants Billie to play Dr Who
It was a sad day when David Tennant decided to give up playing Dr Who for the BBC. They seem to be losing their stars quickly these days…
However, the shoes need to be filled, and so Tennant has put forward Billie Piper. She was on the hit show beforehand, but left after two seasons.
David was asked if he thought Billie could fill the role and he said, “Why not? It’s one of those parts that any actor could bring something valid to, because… it’s a sort of blank canvas every time”.
“The fact is that the difference is a virtue with each Doctor. It’s not like you’re casting Tarzan where you’ve got to have somebody who looks good in a loin cloth. It can be anything.”
Other contenders for the spot are Paterson Joseph (Mark Grace – Casualty) who was in a few previous episodes of Dr Who. Aside from this Hustle star Adrian Lester is apparently in the running. America get their first black president (we’re hoping!), and we might get our first black Dr Who. Wow, we’ve come a long way since the 60’s…
“It would be good to mix things up and there’s no reason why they couldn’t have a black Doctor, or a woman,” said Adrian. “In fact, why not a black woman? Though I want to play him first!”
Maybe Billie Piper could do a reverse Michael Jackson?
Now there’s a thought…
