Matt Willis Interview

To celebrate our third birthday we hosted a Q&A with the one and only Matt Willis. He said he was feeling honest before hand and you guys asked some weird and wonderful questions. Here are some of our favourites.

How is family life?
I’m loving family life man, it’s amazing. I’m so in love with this little girl, it is beyond belief.

Have you been offered any magazine deals for a “family photo”?
We sold our souls once and that was enough.

How’s the new band going?
I’ve just scrapped the stuff we’ve done so far because I wasn’t very happy with it. We’re going into the studio again in the next few weeks to start working on some new songs I’ve been writing.

What’s the new music going to sound like?
It’s kind of like Weezer.

Have you rejected the name Buck Fuddy for your new band?
I think it’s a bit gimmicky. It’s the kind of thing that sounds like a good idea at the time and then you get sick of it.

Where is your favourite place to write music?
I have a room in my house that has all my guitars in. I do most of my writing in there, but recently I’ve been writing in the studio which is really great. Building a record.

Is your new band heading for rock press or the pop press?
I dunno man, I’m not gonna really aim it at the rock press but if they pick up on it then cool.

Is it true that you only do TV presenting for the money and not because you enjoy it?
Kind of. Luckily though I get to do stuff which is real fun.

What’s this about you doing a game show in a theme park?
I’m doing it tomorrow. I’ll tell you when I’ve done it.

Do you enjoy DJing?
I’m sick of DJing now! I used to love it but I’m trying not to drink any more and DJing to a load of drunk people when you’re sober is not fun.

You’ve been to rehab a couple of times. Do you think you’re completely better now?
I try every day.

Is there any chance of you doing any more acting?
I’m not very good at acting, I’m way too self-conscious.

You tweet a lot, what are your thoughts on Twitter?
It really pisses me off when people say I don’t reply to them on Twitter! If I wanna reply to something I will if it’s interesting enough. All I seem to get is “When are busted getting back together?”

Do you think being on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here halted the promotion of your solo album?
I only went on that show on the basis that the record company would promote the ass out of my record while I was there, but when I came out nobody even knew it was out!

Do you ever listen to Sunshine Lover and Make You Mine?
I haven’t heard those songs since I did them!

Have you ever regretted any particular song being released as a single?
I really didn’t like Crash. I only recorded it for Mr Bean and then the record company thought it would be a great idea to release it. It makes me cringe thinking about it.

What has been your motivation to get all of the new tattoos?
I was in New Zealand and I got a really crappy tattoo on my wrist, so I went to get it covered and I got a bit carried away. I’m totally addicted to tattoos man, I want as many as I can get. I’ve still got loads of work to do on my arms though.

Do you fancy getting flesh tunnels? They’d suit your tattooed look!
Ha! I don’t think so.

Would you ever pose naked or topless for a magazine when you get all your tattoos finished?
I need to lose some weight first. Man I’m getting a big belly!

Is there any chance of a Busted reunion?
I get asked this question all the time. I know for a fact that Charlie would never do a Busted reunion, so if there was one it would not involve him. To be honest, Charlie made the last year of Busted pretty miserable for me so I’m not sure if I would want to be in a band with him again.
I’m not sure. I’d really like to work with James again, so it could happen…

Are you still sick of Year 3000?
I actually really like it again! I used to be sooo sick of it, but I played it at a few DJ gigs and people love it.

How do you feel about the Jonas Brothers?
I’m chuffed to bits that the Jonas Brothers covered our songs. I’m not sure about the lyric changes though.

Will you be doing anything for 5 year anniversary of the Busted break up?
Wow, 5 years! I’m not sure, I’m off to LA to go see James for Halloween though.

Did you enjoy being on CD:UK and Top Of The Pops every Saturday morning? Surely there were a couple of hangovers from the nights before?
I was on TV so much with no sleep! I can’t believe they let me on!

Would you ever work with McFly again?
I dunno man, maybe. It depends on what it would be for. I’m no longer with their management but I am still friends with those guys so maybe.

Would you do a Michael Jackson tribute show with James?
I know James would do it!

What was it like working with Jason Perry?
Jason is the funniest guy I have ever met! I loved working with him and would jump at the chance to do it again.

Why did Busted release Thunderbirds and 3am together?
Charlie wanted 3am to be a single but the record company wanted Thunderbirds, so it kept everyone happy.

Grand Unification by Fightstar or Welcome To Loserville by Son Of Dork?
Loserville, all the way.

What do you think of James Bourne’s song Karate On My Heart?
I really liked it. I think Futureboy is freaking ace.

Would you consider yourself to be a mummy’s boy?
I wouldn’t say I’m a Mummy’s boy no. Ha.

Is David Gest as weird as he seems?
Ha, I dunno.

Do you wish you were Edward Cullen?
No!

Do you shave your bum fluff?
No I don’t. Should I?

Do you actually read Flecking Magazine? Do you enjoy their rather great articles and interviews like mere mortals do?
I do read it yes, I am a mere mortal. I love Flecking! They have been great to me and I will make sure they get what they deserve!
