Radio 1 introduce new midweek chart countdown

On March 10 Radio 1 will break the tradition and start to host a new midweek chart, allowing listeners to see how their favourite songs and artists are doing in the run to the number one slot.

The show will be a 30 minute slot in Greg James’ Radio One afternoon show, between 3.30pm and 4pm, and will show the biggest new entries and the highest chart climbers midweek before The Big Top 40 Show on Sundays.

Martin Talbot, the managing director of the Official Charts Company hopes that “for the first time, music fans will get a reliable insight into how the race for number one is shaping up”.

This is a new move for Radio 1 only a year after they introduced their interactive charts, which heavily rely on the iTunes top ten for the week, a move which was heavily criticised for it’s fairness.
