Brandon Flowers didn’t want to go solo
Brandon Flowers wanted to make his solo album with the rest of The Killers.
The ‘Mr. Brightside’ singer only agreed to make his new record ‘Flamingo’ alone because the rest of the group – drummer Ronnie Vannucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer – wanted to take a break.
He said: “To be honest, I personally would prefer it if this was a Killers record. Some of the songs were originally destined to be Killers songs, but it is what it is.
“I’m overflowing with songs right now. It’s something that has happened very quickly and very recently. That, combined with the other guys in the band wanting to take a long break, is what convinced me to do this album. I can’t really blame the other guys but I’ve got this fire burning. I’m ready to go.”
Despite wanting the songs to feature on a fourth LP with his group, Brandon is adamant the finished record doesn’t sound like The Killers.
He added to NME magazine: “I was conscious of trying not to do something that was ‘too Killers.’
“We’re a band of four parts, so I found it was pretty much impossible for me to sound too much like The Killers on my own.
“There are definitely things on there I haven’t tried before – a gospel song, for example. I really think this album is going to be its own thing.”
