Did you hear the one about Lembit Opik?

Well, if his goal is to make us laugh he’s already a success!! Maybe the jokes on us but it has been announced today that former Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik is going to try his hand as a stand-up comedian!!

We thought dating a Cheeky Girl was comedy enough (apparently her mum can tell you the date that they first did ‘it’!) but it seems Lembit wants to go one step further.

The former  MP has announced that he will be performing a 10-minute set on 2nd June at the Backstage Comedy Club in Leicester as a stand-up comedian!

Backstage’s club promoter Robert Meakin said “Before the election, he told me he fancied coming down and doing a bit once the campaign was over. Of course, he didn’t know he was going to lose. But he called me on the Saturday after the election and said he was still up for it, and said he’ll do 10 to 15 minutes of observational material based on his misfortune.”

After losing his seat in the general election, Lembit vowed “In the words of Arnie Schwarzenegger, ‘I’ll be back’” and true to his word the day after his election defeat he popped up on ‘Have I Got News for You’ to crack jokes!
