Lady Gaga and J.Lo rule the World Music Awards
Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas were the big winners at this year’s World Music Awards, while Jennifer Lopez was named a pop Legend.
The eccentric singer received five honours at the ceremony held at the Sporting Club in Monte Carlo last night (18.05.10) narrowly beating the ‘Boom Boom Pow’ stars and French DJ David Guetta who picked up three accolades each.
Gaga was honoured with World’s Best Single for ‘Poker Face’ and World’s Best Album for ‘The Fame’, as well as World’s Best Rock/ Pop Artist, World’s Best New Artist and the Best-Selling Artist in America.
Black Eyed Peas were named World’s Best Pop Artist, World’s Best R&B Artist and World’s Best Hip-Hop Artist, while David triumphed as World’s Best DJ, and was honoured for his work as a producer and as France’s Best-Selling Artist.
Lopez entertained the crowd with a selection of her hits after scooping the coveted Legend for Outstanding Contribution to the Arts accolade, despite her 11-year music career waning in recent years, while The Scorpions were named Rock Legends.
Other winners at the event – which was hosted by ‘Heroes’ actress Hayden Panettiere – included U2, who were named World’s Best Rock Artist and Ireland’s Best-Selling Artist, and Andrea Bocelli, who received the prize for World’s Best Classical Artist.
