Mitch Winehouse the latest to release on Amy’s Lioness Records
It’s a family affair on Amy Winehouse’s music label as dad Mitch Winehouse is the latest in the family to make a bid for the charts as he launched his music career.
Lioness Records is already home to Amy and her god-daughter Dionne Bromfield who can both boast a success lets hope daddy doesn’t let the side down!
The former cabbie has recorded an album of jazz and swing classics named Rush Of Love which showcased songs in London yesterday. Sadly Amy wasn’t on hand to offer her dad any support. “Amy can’t be here today because she’s in business meetings. But without her help and encouragement, I wouldn’t be here today,” Mitch told reporters.
He continued to explain how the album came about and what is daughter thinks of her dad’s efforts. “Amy said to me five or six years ago, ‘Why don’t you make an album, Dad?’ and we talked about it, and then she got ill. So when she got better, we spoke about it again. Of course she’s heard the album. She thinks it’s great.”
The Mitch has always (not so) secretly harboured aspirations to be a singer.
“You thought I’m only doing this because I’m Amy’s dad, but I think I’ve done OK. When I was growing up in my 20s and 30s, I always sang – I didn’t have any preconceived ideas about being a singer, I’ve done shows before, but it’s becoming more serious now.”
He is quick to deny he is cashing in on his Grammy award-winning daughter’s reputation, saying: “You’ve got to look at this realistically. Realistically, I wouldn’t have got this gig if I wasn’t Amy’s dad but equally, if I couldn’t sing, I wouldn’t bring out an album.”
