Vera Wang’s difficult Lopez dress
Vera Wang was pushed “outside of her comfort zone” when she was asked to make a wedding dress for Jennifer Lopez.
The designer – who is currently the subject of a retrospective of her work at Bloomingdales in New York – confesses creating a gown for the ‘Back-up Plan’ actress’ ill-fated nuptials to Ben Affleck was difficult.
She said: “It took eight months and we made three dresses. It pushed me out of my own box and comfort zone.”
However, the dress never got worn because they cancelled the wedding in September 2003 before calling off the engagement in January 2004, six months before she married third husband Marc Anthony.
Vera has previously said the dress she made for Jennifer to marry Ben in was “the most expensive I’d ever made”.
She added: “It was made of chi-chi couture fabric and had 18 tiers.”
However, Vera did create a gown for Jennifer to wear on her big day and made a “less detailed and frilly number” for the low-key nuptials to Marc.
However, despite the troubles creating a dress for Jennifer, the 60-year-old designer professes many celebrities are looking for more toned-down attire for their special day.
She said: “I dress a great many rock stars and I’m always surprised when they want the most traditional dresses.”
Vera Wang’s creations have been worn by a huge number of women, including Sharon Stone, Mariah Carey, Victoria Beckham and Uma Thurman.
