Robert Pattinson talks sex before marriage

Robert Pattinson has spoken about sex before marriage, and why Edward Cullen is so against it.

Edward, the character Rob plays in the Twilight films, will not sleep with Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) until they are married, and while the 24-year-old actor respects the views of his character he doesn’t necessarily agree with them.

‘I don’t feel like I have to stand by [Edward’s] values, but I respect them.’ Robert explained in an interview with Celebs Sunday.

‘I guess courtship is a good thing, but only if it’s pleasurable. Sometimes people meet each other in a bar and sleep with each other that night, then stay with each other for the rest of their lives.’

‘Or they could just stay with each other and never get married. It just doesn’t make a difference.’

Speaking about Edwards views on sex before marriage, Rob said: ‘It’s kind of weird, his reaction, it’s not like most guys. He’s like “I’m not going to sleep with you before you go through this whole wedding” and I think it’s something to prove to himself.’

‘Maybe he’s just terrified to have sex!’ he laughed.
