Zac Efron “couldn’t see” himself doing Footloose
Zac Efron has revealed why he turned down a role in the Footloose remake.
The 22-year-old was to play the lead role of rebellious teenager Ren McCormack in the remake, originally played by Kevin Bacon, however Zac pulled out of the project.
“All the things I loved about Footloose I couldn’t find in the project, they just weren’t there – I couldn’t see myself doing it,” he told Details.
Zac said that calling then-director Kenny Ortega, whom he previously worked with in the High School Musical films, to tell him the bad news about Footloose was “literally the hardest phone call I’ve ever made”.
Newcomer Kenny Wormald will now play Ren in the new Footloose.
