Louis Tomlinson has taken to Twitter to reassure UK fans that he does appreciate them.
The One Direction member accidentally offended UK fans while praising US fans on Radio 1.
“I can’t quite believe it to be honest,” he said.
“It’s quite surreal.
“We didn’t even get a No 1 in the UK so let’s just hope that it stays out there.”
After a few tweets from fans who felt unappreciated, Louis set the record straight on Twitter.
“The point I was making was how surprised I was that we went number one in America considering we are an English/Irish band,” Louis said in a series of tweets. “The UK is my home I appreciate the dedication of every single person, anyone who knows me personally will know that. The UK will always be special to me.
“The fact we can make people happy from doing what we love is incredible, it’s all I ever want to do. I never intend to sound ungrateful.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank anyone who has ever supported us. As we say in a lot of interviews, we owe ALL our success to you. X”
