5 TV Shows you MUST start watching

With most of our favourite TV shows off air while we wait for a new seasons, now is a great time for you to catch up.

It’s fair to say that here at Flecking HQ, we’re into a variety of different TV dramas. I’ve selected my five favourite TV dramas of the moment and I’m going to tell you exactly why you need to start watching them so that you can catch up before the new series hit out screens.

You’re welcome!

Fringe

With four seasons of Fringe already being aired over here in the UK, show creators have confirmed that the fifth season will be their last. Yes, you’ll have a lot of catching up to do, but season five doesn’t kick off until late September so you’ve got ages.
With the exception of a few things that made me snigger during my GCSEs, everything I know about science I have learned from Fringe. Of course it’s not useful day-to-day science that I am learning, but that’s what makes Fringe so fantastic. The show follows Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), and Walter Bishop (John Noble), members of a Federal Bureau of Investigation “Fringe Division”. The team uses “fringe” science and FBI investigative techniques to investigate a series of unexplained occurrences… in the interest of keeping this article spoiler free, I’ll just say that a lot of the weird things that happen are building towards so pretty huge stuff. With awesome twists and a very strong cast, you’ll be glued.

The Good Wife

If I learned everything I know about science from Fringe, then I can put everything I know about the law down to The Good Wife. The clever legal drama boasts fantastic writers and fantastic actors who, together, make for some pretty fantastic viewing.
The show centres around Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies), who is forced to go back to work as a lawyer after her States Attorney (Chris Noth) husband cheats on her and gets caught up in a corruption scandal which sees him sent to prison. Alicia ends up working for an old friend, Will Gardner (Josh Charles). Is there something between Alicia and her boss? Will she stand by her husband? As the show progresses through three seasons you’ll be on an emotional roller-coaster ride, but you’ll love every minute of it. Season three has just finished, so you’ve got time to catch up before season four.

Pretty Little Liars

If I learned everything I know about the law from The Good Wife, then I learned everything I know about being a lying bitch from Pretty Little Liars. I’m totally kidding, but you’ll see a lot of lying and a lot of bitches on your pretty little journey. The third season of the show has just kicked off in the US, so you’ll need to get a move on.
The show follows the lives of Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson), Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) and Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) – four friends whose little group falls apart after queen bee, Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) mysteriously disappears. One year later they all start getting messages from “A”, who threatens to reveal all their secrets. At first, they think it is Alison (only she knew these secrets)… until her body is found. The show sees the girls trying to find out who is messing with them, and who murdered their friend. Oh, and if the drama isn’t enough for you, then just enjoy the hot boys (Ian Harding, Tyler Blackburn, Keegan Allen).

The Walking Dead

Science, the law, bitchy girls – all pretty easy to get your head around to an extent, but Zombies… zombies are a different matter. Imagine if you woke up tomorrow and life as you know it was over, the dead were coming back to life, zombies were strolling around eating anyone they could get their teeth around – well that’s what happens in The Walking Dead. Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is a sheriff’s deputy who wakes up after being in a coma to find the world dominated by “walkers”. The show sees Rick and his family trying to survive, finding other survivors along the way.
Season two has already been shown over here so there’s plenty of time to catch up before season three hits our screens. Warning: the show is seriously sick, so don’t watch if you’re squeamish about blood and guts.

The Killing

When I started watching The Killing, I didn’t know anything about it. This has actually worked in my favour, because I soon realised that The Killing (US) was based on a Danish TV show of the same name, and a lot of people were snubbing the “remake” in favour of the “original”. Not knowing this, I started watching and I became hooked very quickly.
Set in Seattle, Washington, the series follows the investigation into the murder of local teenager Rosie Larsen, with each episode covering approximately 24 hours. The show follows three different subplots but they all link back to Rosie’s murder.
It’s Det. Sarah Linden’s last day on the job, with Det. Stephen Holder ready to take her place. The Rosie’s body is found, and Linden finds herself caught up in the case, perusing leads with Holder for what she hopes will only be a few days…
Seasons two is currently showing here in the UK, so you’d better hurry.
