Cheryl Cole files for divorce from husband Ashley Cole
Cheryl Cole has confirmed that she has begun divorce proceedings against her footballer husband Ashley.
The 26-year-old X Factor judge has now filed papers at the High Court in London and is expected to ask for a “quickie” divorce, just three months after they split.
She has already agreed to let Ashley keep the couples £6 million mansion as part of the deal, the couple, who were married for three and a half years did not have any sort of pre-nuptial agreement in place.
Cheryl proved she believed in the words of her first hit single Fight For This Love when she stuck by Ashley after allegations of his infidelity surfaced two years ago. But it all became too much for the singer when further claims that he’d been sending saucy photos to a glamour model and indulging in “sex texts” came earlier this year.
Her divorce papers are said to cite the “unreasonable behaviour” of the Mr Cole as the reason for the break-up.
A source told the Sun newspaper: “Cheryl made a swift decision to put England’s World Cup dreams ahead of herself. The divorce should be finalised before England’s first touch of the ball in South Africa on June 12. She wants a completely clean break with no malice or wrangling over property or money. Cheryl will not take one penny of Ashley’s money.”
Cheryl has always admitted that the publicity surrounding the couples break-up has been “incredibly painful but also incredibly humiliating“.
